Semazen (Whirling Dervish)

The pomegranate opening around a whirling dervish symbolizes unity, abundance and the endless cycle of life. While the dervish's turning represents the journey a person makes into themselves and the harmony they form with the universe, the many seeds of the pomegranate speak of the plurality born of unity.

The colorful glass mosaic pieces lend the work vitality and movement, making the dervish's turning visible, as it were, through light. “Sema” is a work that tells of the serenity of the soul, the abundance of life and the wholeness formed when different colors come together.
